Featured Project: The Bushwick Motorcycle Garage and Garden

Christopher Dameron is an architect to watch in the coming years. In addition to his duties teaching architecture, his eponymous firm is currently working on a Park Slope Townhouse, an Event Space in Williamsburg, and a Penthouse in TriBeCa.  I’m sure we’ll feature at least one of these projects soon.

Because of my affinity for motorcycles, I came across this beautiful little multi-purpose project he recently completed in Brooklyn.  It seems silly to describe it since his website does such a good job, but the part that caught my eye, apart from the motorcycles, is the way he used wood with steel and concrete to create the building and spaces, along with the green roof and landscaping work.

Enter, Christopher Dameron…

Bushwick Motorcycle Garage and Garden by Christopher Dameron.

The Bushwick Motorcycle Garage and Garden

The building and courtyard replace a marble shop behind a residence in an industrial zone of Brooklyn.  We removed the former dilapidated shop and courtyard, leaving only the existing bearing walls- and their accumulated years of marble dust, graffiti, and stains from exposure to the elements.  The roof is engineered to support deep soil, allowing for a fully planted garden.  The design of the courtyard and entry space explores cedar as a refined material, custom-milled, sealed and integrated with a new steel frame and hardware.  A series of large sliding planes form a flexible indoor/outdoor space for working on bikes and hosting parties.
