Featured Event: The NY Oyster Week Harbor Cruise
NY Oyster Week is in full effect! As seen here last week, NY Oyster Week is now upon us and I hope you’ve had a chance to be a part of it. If not? Well, here’s your chance. Take advantage of the great weather forecast and last day of summer by going on a little boat ride in Manhattan.
As seen in the NY Times, “Oysters will be served aboard the yacht Manhattan for a harbor cruise Thursday from 6 to 7:30pm or 8-9:30pm. The program also includes a talk about oysters and demonstrations of molecular gastronomy and Champagne-bottle sabering. The boat sails from Pier 62, Chelsea Piers at 23rd Street. Reservations are $132.87 a person from www.harboroystercruises.eventbrite.com.”

I’ll be on the 6pm launch. I hope to see you there!
MORE ABOUT NY OYSTER WEEK (LAST WEEK’S POST):
“New York Oyster Week, from September 22nd to the 29th, is a celebration of the oyster’s past, present and future role in the history, culture, cuisine, economy and ecology in and around New York City.”
The week’s agenda includes special events that feature the oyster and education about its history and future related to New York City as well as a collaboration with featured restaurants that will present oyster-based cuisine.
The events are “built around and framed by existing and original oyster festivals, contests, pairings and gatherings of all kinds”
The restaurant collaborations include “a myriad of oyster features and special pairing events.”
The reason for this week dedicated to oysters?
“New York Oyster Week celebrates the benevolent bivalve that NYC was built on through the culture, cuisine and commerce they’ve spawned…”
I can guarantee there will be great cuisine, fantastic experiences, and a little education on the importance of the oyster to the history of NYC.
