Modern and Warm in NYC: Interior Design by Robert Kaner

I love it when architects and designers are able to deliver a modern aesthetic and still create warm spaces. Robert Kaner does just that.  With crisp lines and splashes of bold colors, Mr. Kaner creates some great living spaces for NYC homeowners as well as San Marino!

57th Street Residence (from Robert Kaner’s Website)

This project transforms a new-construction Manhattan apartment into a boutique-style residence for a client whose primary residence is outside the City.

Each functional zone within the apartment is redefined and developed with millwork of a distinct configuration and finish. A common geometric vocabulary is employed in both the millwork and furnishings to provide a unified design. Materials and furnishings have been selected to infuse warmth into the simplified geometric forms.

New York based RB Architect and Robert Kaner Interior Design have completed a stylish and sophisticated Manhattan residence featuring an artist collection rug by Nying Zemo. Architect Rafael Berkowitz and interior designer Robert Kaner are known for combining modernism with warmth, fully integrating interior architecture and furnishings to create living environments tailored to their clients. In their latest project, they have incorporated a rug from the Aziz + Cucher Collection, called “Glyphos”, using it as a focal point to define the main living area in the apartment. Aziz+Cucher are pioneers of digital art and their rug collection is produced by Nying Zemo, a custom tibetan rug company in New York. Nying Zemo is known to take fine-artists’ work and translate their work into hand-knotted rugs made eco-effectively, in the company’s own manufacturing facility in Kathmandu, Nepal for clients all over the world.
