Next week looks to be very busy. Its that time of year. The weather is great, the kids are back to school, no major holidays, and events that have been in the works for the last 12 months are going off. Starting this Friday is New York’s 2nd Annual Oyster Week (more like a week & a half!), going on until September 29th.
The series of events celebrate the oyster’s role in the history, culture, cuisine, economy and ecology in and around New York City. Lectures, wine and beer pairings, dinner specials, festivals, and other gatherings based on this ‘benevolent bi-valve’ will be happening throughout the week. Check out their events calendar here. I hope to see you at one of the events!
Later in the week, another series of events, also in its second year, will begin. A Modern Interior Design Week, if you will. The second annual CITY MODERN event series celebrates New York’s wealth of modern design and architecture. It’s a busy time of year indeed! More on that soon…
“Embrace raw, whole foods or fall asleep on the couch watching a rerun of Friends with a pint of factory made vanilla ice cream wedged between you and the cat. Do something every day that scares you a little bit. Eat a new oyster every week. Be a caveman for a second. Tap into your primal self that part of yourself you share with the first bi-pedal hominids who were (in fact) the first bold men (and women) to eat an oyster. Eating an entire animal…things that were alive a minute ago contain all of their organs, blood and guts is something that is really good for you physically, mentally, spiritually.” ~Kevin Joseph, Co-Producer, New York Oyster Week.
