THE Essential Guide To Visiting NYC

THE Essential Guide To Visiting NYC

THE Essential Guide To Visiting NYC

A friend who had previously visited NYC was back again with some family who had never been to The City before.  I asked for their perspective on what they would suggest to others when visiting since, as a resident, I wouldn’t necessarily know what to suggest other than the basic tourist stops, the High Line and Central Park, and any one of my favorite bars and restaurants.

Here then is a paraphrased recap of those suggestions for those of you who are going to be visiting the city or for those of you who want to approach the city like a tourist.  The next time I have friends or family in from out of town, I think I’ll follow this suggested itinerary myself!

Thank you to Angela A. for letting me share this!

/The Grey line (double decker red bus) – It screams tourist, but you can see most of the city in about 2.5 hours (downtown area).  You go through Wall Street, Chinatown (slightly), Greenwich Village,  Central Park (outskirts), Rockefeller Center, The World Trade Center and there is a drop off close to the Staten Island Ferry…

/Staten Island Ferry – it’s free, runs 24 hours a day and gets you as close as you can get to lady liberty until she re-opens.  Also gives you a great view of the city skyline.

/See a Broadway Show, we saw Book of Mormon and LOVED it.  Plus gives you an excuse to see Times Square at night and all lit up!

/Central Park – it’s just so beautiful

/Empire State Building – great views and photo ops. Be like King Kong and get to the top!

/Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center – more great views of the city

/See a taping of one of the Late Night shows like Jon Stewart. The team at RenovatingNYC is partial to Jimmy Fallon.

/The Met – Amazing collection of masterpieces.

/The Highline – Renovating NYC’s favorite park!

/Grand Central Terminal

/ Ride the subway – just take a ride. You’ll see so many interesting things, people, and places.  Just take it in.

There it is!
